Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Advanced Urgent Care?

At Newark 24/7 Urgent Care, we provide a higher level of urgent care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Unlike many urgent care centers, we always have a physician on site, including board-certified Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and Family Medicine physicians, supported by experienced Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners from a variety of urgent care and emergency medicine backgrounds.

We also offer 24/7 digital X-ray services with a dedicated X-ray technologist on site around the clock. This level of availability is uncommon in urgent care and helps support faster evaluation and treatment decisions, day or night.

Our advanced urgent care model goes beyond traditional walk-in care with bedside ultrasound (POCUS), rapid laboratory testing, IV medications and fluids, breathing treatments, and advanced evaluation for select medical conditions. These services help many patients avoid unnecessary Emergency Department visits when appropriate.

When you need more than a traditional urgent care, but not always the Emergency Department, we are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Newark 24/7 Urgent Care provides a higher level of care than many traditional urgent care centers. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a physician always on site. We offer on-site digital X-rays with a dedicated technologist, point-of-care ultrasound, laboratory testing, IV fluids and medications, breathing treatments, and advanced procedures—all designed to diagnose and treat more complex illnesses and injuries without the need for an emergency department visit whenever it is safe to do so.

Appointments & Pre-Registration

No. We welcome both walk-in patients and patients who pre-register online.

When you pre-register, you can select an anticipated arrival time and complete your registration before you arrive. This helps expedite your check-in process and may reduce your overall visit time.

Yes. Walk-in patients are always welcome.

For the fastest experience, we recommend completing pre-registration before arriving whenever possible.

Pre-registration allows you to complete your registration information before arriving at the clinic and select an anticipated arrival time.

By completing registration in advance, our team can prepare for your visit and move you through the check-in and rooming process more efficiently when you arrive.

Yes. We strongly encourage all patients to pre-register before arriving.

Patients who complete registration in advance typically experience a faster check-in and rooming process because their information has already been entered and is available for review.

No. The time you choose during pre-registration helps us plan for your arrival and speeds up the check-in process, but it is not a guaranteed appointment time. As an urgent care center, patients are seen based on medical priority. While we make every effort to see you as close to your selected time as possible, wait times may vary depending on patient volume and the severity of other patients’ conditions.

Pre-registration allows you to select an anticipated arrival time, but it does not guarantee a specific appointment time with a provider.

Patients are evaluated based on medical acuity, arrival time, and clinic flow. While pre-registration can help expedite check-in and room placement, provider evaluation times may vary depending on patient volume and the urgency of other patients’ medical conditions.

In many cases, yes. Patients who pre-register can often be checked in and roomed more quickly than patients who arrive without completing registration.

However, once patients are roomed, providers prioritize care based on wait times, medical acuity, and clinic flow. Patients with more urgent medical needs may be seen first.

Insurance & Payment

Newark 24/7 Urgent Care is in-network with Highmark/Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, and Delaware Medicaid plans, including Highmark Health Options, Delaware First Health, and AmeriHealth Caritas.

We accept and submit claims to other insurance companies on your behalf; however, coverage and reimbursement vary by plan. Patients are responsible for verifying whether our facility is in-network or out-of-network with their specific insurance plan and for any copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, or non-covered services.
For questions about your specific coverage or benefits, please contact your insurance company directly.

You are still welcome to receive care at Newark 24/7 Urgent Care. We will collect your insurance information and submit your claim to your insurance company as a courtesy. Depending on your plan, your out-of-pocket costs may vary.  If you have questions about your out-of-network benefits, we recommend contacting your insurance company before your visit.

Payment is due at the time of your visit. We collect insurance copays, direct payment for cash-pay services, and self-pay fees during check-in. After your insurance processes your claim, you may receive a bill if there is a remaining balance based on your plan’s benefits. If you have questions about your balance, our team is happy to help.

We accept cash, Apple Pay, and most major credit and debit cards. Payment of any applicable copays, deductibles, or self-pay balances is due at the time of service. If you are unable to pay the full amount at your visit, we encourage partial payment whenever possible and will work with you to address any remaining balance.

Our goal is to ensure that patients have access to timely medical care while helping them meet their financial responsibilities. We understand that financial situations vary and will work with patients whenever possible to establish reasonable payment arrangements.

We understand that unexpected medical expenses can happen. If you are unable to pay the full amount at your visit, we encourage partial payment whenever possible and will work with you to address any remaining balance. Our goal is to ensure you receive the care you need while helping you manage your financial responsibility.

Yes. You do not need health insurance to be seen at Newark 24/7 Urgent Care. We welcome self-pay patients and offer transparent self-pay pricing for our services. Yes. We offer on-site digital X-rays 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our dedicated X-ray technologist is available around the clock, and your images are reviewed by your treating clinician during your visit to help guide your care. Every X-ray is also reviewed by a board-certified radiologist for an additional level of quality and accuracy.

Yes. We offer limited on-site laboratory testing 24/7, with many results available during your visit. Available blood testing includes electrolytes, kidney function, glucose, hemoglobin and hematocrit, and high-sensitivity cardiac blood testing (troponin) when clinically appropriate.

Yes. We provide IV fluids and a variety of IV medications when medically appropriate. These treatments can help manage conditions such as dehydration, nausea and vomiting, migraines, allergic reactions, asthma, infections, and other illnesses or injuries. Your clinician will determine whether IV treatment is the best option based on your condition.

Yes. We offer point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to help diagnose and treat many medical conditions during your visit. Depending on your symptoms, your clinician may use ultrasound to evaluate injuries, abdominal pain, gallbladder disease, kidney stones, blood clots (DVT), soft tissue infections, joint problems, and other conditions. Ultrasound is performed when medically appropriate and helps us provide faster, more accurate care.

At Newark 24/7 Urgent Care, we use Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) to help evaluate certain medical concerns in real time during your visit. Unlike traditional imaging that may require scheduling or outside testing, bedside ultrasound allows our trained clinicians to quickly gather additional information as part of your medical evaluation.

POCUS may be used to assess certain injuries, joint or muscle concerns, soft tissue infections, fluid collections, abdominal complaints, flank pain concerning for kidney stones, leg swelling concerning for blood clots (deep vein thrombosis/DVT), and select medical conditions when clinically appropriate. In some cases, a focused bedside heart assessment may also be used as part of the evaluation for select symptoms or medical concerns. Ultrasound is used alongside your history and physical exam to help guide diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Our ultrasound program is led by Dr. Jennifer Mink, who is fellowship-trained in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (AEMUS) and holds advanced certification in bedside ultrasound. Newark 24/7 Urgent Care maintains a CUAP-designated ultrasound program, reflecting our commitment to quality, training, and excellence in bedside ultrasound evaluation.

Please note: POCUS is a focused bedside assessment and is not a comprehensive radiology ultrasound or echocardiogram performed by an ultrasound technologist and interpreted by a radiologist or cardiologist. We do not evaluate the reproductive organs (ovaries, testicles, or breasts), nor do we evaluate pregnancy-related complaints with ultrasound in our urgent care setting. If these concerns are present, or if a more comprehensive ultrasound evaluation is needed, a higher level of care or a dedicated imaging center may be recommended.

Physicals are a flat-rate fee due at the time of the visit; we cannot bill insurance for them. This is a non-refundable fee, so please ensure you bring any and all necessary eyeglass wear and forms with you at the time of the visit. We will not complete forms later that were not present at your initial physical.

Our clinicians have access to EKGs, on-site high-sensitivity troponin testing, chest X-rays, ultrasound and other diagnostic tools.

For carefully selected low-risk patients, we use an evidence-based chest pain pathway with high-sensitivity troponin testing to help determine whether a heart attack is unlikely. We also partner with local cardiology specialists to help arrange timely outpatient follow-up when appropriate.

Patients with high-risk chest pain, abnormal findings, or concern for a heart attack or other serious condition require emergency department evaluation. If needed, we will begin immediate treatment and arrange transfer to the emergency department for further care.

Yes. We evaluate suspected blood clots in the legs, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and superficial venous thrombosis (SVT), using point-of-care ultrasound when medically appropriate. We do not evaluate suspected blood clots in the arms (upper extremity DVT).

Yes. We offer walk-in PPD (tuberculin skin testing) for tuberculosis screening. We do not offer TB blood testing, such as QuantiFERON or T-SPOT.

After your PPD is placed, it must be read by a healthcare professional within 48–72 hours. This timeframe is required for accurate interpretation and cannot be extended.

For patients who require a chest X-ray because of a prior positive TB test or other appropriate circumstances, we offer a single-view chest X-ray for a flat fee. Official radiology interpretation is typically available within 24 hours and can be provided for employment, school, or other documentation requirements.
Please bring any available documentation of a prior positive TB test, tuberculosis treatment, or BCG vaccination.
